The onyx woman reaches out her hand
and it waits
waits as the night waits on day
waits as the tide waits on moon
and it flickers like a flame
held captive behind glass
wanting to weep and sing
and burn the house down
it waits
as it dreams of waves and the ocean
of silence and sound
and slowly the hand sinks to the bottom of the sea
the men weren’t able to hold it and neither the gods
and so it waits and it sits and the years pass by
the fish turn into dust
and the dust turns into humans
and the humans crawl to land
just the hand waits alone
in between the other hands
among other waiting women
sunken to the bottoms of the seas
then
a touch
a light embrace
and it’s her
who took my hand
and it’s her
who who made me whole.
